How to Prepare for a Brazilian Wax

In case this is your first time, or perhaps it has just been a while, we wanted to give you some tips to keep in mind before coming to see D’Lisa Shayn at Salon D’ Shayn for your waxing appointment.

Length of Hair
You want to make sure the hair is long enough, we usually recommend 2 weeks’ worth of hair growth which is about the equivalent of a grain of rice. That said, there is no need to trim your hair down if it is longer than this. In fact, the longer the hair, the more the wax has to grab, which makes pulling the hair out easier.

Dietary Advice
We also recommend avoiding caffeine or alcohol before your waxing appointment, as having stimulants in your system, can actually make your skin more sensitive. In fact, we DO recommend, taking some ibuprofen before your service to help reduce any discomfort.

Exfoliation
Exfoliating the area before getting waxed will help lift out any hairs under the skin and also remove dead skin cells. Reusable, machine washable exfoliating gloves are great for this.

Post Brazilian Waxing Care
After your waxing appointment, and to help keep the area ingrown hair free, Salon D’ Shayn has a salt scrub with lavender, witch hazel and nourishing oils that can be used a few times a week. The salt helps to draw out impurities and exfoliates the skin. The lavender is calming, and witch hazel is a natural astringent. This scrub is great for an all over body polish as well.

When you arrive for your appointment, we do have intimate wipes available and a bidet toilet as well.

During your waxing, D’Lisa uses a pre and post wax oil with Jasmine to protect the skin during the waxing. After the wax you are given a pad with salicylic acid to help prevent ingrown hairs and medicate the area. Finally, a nourishing oil is applied with your choice of mint, orange vanilla or sandalwood scent. The salicylic pads and nourishing oils are also available for aftercare purchase.

Please note that it can take a few waxing cycles for the area to become super smooth and for the hair to grow in at the same time. The hair will grow in softer and there will be less of it the more you wax.

For larger areas to be waxed like legs, back and chest she utilizes her speed waxing technique which uses rollers for thin, even wax application.

Waxing can be done on all body types and all hair types and while you may feel nervous the first time, D’Lisa has been an esthetician since 2002 and built her business on waxing. In fact, she has won best waxer in the Valley many times over in her career.

Everyone is welcome! Relax and wax!
