Meet D’Lisa Shayn of Salon D’ Shayn in Central and McDowell

Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Lisa Shayn.

D’Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

D’Lisa Shayn began her career in 2002 and attended the Oregon Institute of Aesthetics. Her first job was at Destination Laguna in Las Vegas, a full-service salon and spa with 100 staff members and 7 other locations around the city. From there, she moved back to Phoenix, her home since 1989. In 2008, she opened her first Salon D’ Shayn location in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. Five years later, she opened another location near downtown Phoenix. In 2017, she consolidated both locations into one at The Muse, a luxury apartment complex across from the Phoenix Art Museum on Central and McDowell.

While she is known throughout the Valley for her speed waxing expertise and less painful Brazilians, top quality skin care is also her passion. She offers a wide range of services from classic facials to LED light therapy, Cryoclear, CO2 Carbonic, Microneedling and a variety of custom blended facials.

She is only one of two people in the Valley certified to perform the Elaine Brennan Skin Renewal Peeling System.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Opening a business is never easy, especially when you are the sole proprietor and opened in the summer of ‘08 right before the big financial collapse. I had to pare down my life by moving out of the home I had been renting, it was beautiful but expensive. I rented a room from a friend, stopped going out to eat or going on vacation and made myself available to clients 7 days a week. We are entering our 10th year of being in business and for the first time, I am only needing to work 5 days a week! Of course, I still am always connected to what is going on every single day, but I have more time for myself, my husband and our dogs.

Salon D’ Shayn is a full-service salon that offers a wide variety of hair services, cuts, color, extensions, bridal, nails, waxing, skincare, massage and full bridal services. If you need it, we can do it!

I am not only the owner but a Master Esthetician with almost 16 years of experience and Brazilian waxing for men and women is what I am known for.

Everyone on staff really works hard to go above and beyond when it comes to customer service and to raise the bar in our field. If it isn’t perfect, we will make it perfect.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The location we are in now is our third location. It is the culmination of years of hard work and exactly where we need to be. Every few years, I either opened a new location or expanded one. But, once this final location was secured, I consolidated the two locations I had into just this one. It has been an amazing adventure and now we are just working to become one of the best salons in the Valley.
