Fibroblasts produce tropocollagen, the forerunner of collagen, and ground substance, a gel-like web that fills the spaces between cells and fibers in connective tissue.Dermal fibroblasts are an essential part of the skin; they communicate with each other and other cell types and produce as well as organize the matrix of collagen and elastin that surrounds all of the inner cells in the dermis, playing a crucial role in regulating skin physiology.
